Nature’s Garbage Transformed Into Contemporary Decor

NaturesCast is what it is called.

Forest scraps turned functional is what it is.

NaturesCast produces furniture pieces, shades, houseware products, home decor items and jewelry from dry leaves, dead twigs and barks from the forests around Compostela, Province of Cabu in the Phillipppines.

While participating in a Clean and Green Environment Community Project to rid the mountainous areas of nature’s waste and debris which often resulted in forest fires, the concept for Naturescast was founded. Pete and Catherine Delantar thought that there should be a use for the heaps of garbage. Catherine recalled ”the sight of so much garbage reminded us of how we are continually depleting our natural resources. There are times when I worry there will not be enogh resources for our children. Sometimes, you come to a point when you wonder what you can do to help slow down the consumption of what we take for granted.”

picking.jpgPete and Catherine found a way to not only convert forest scraps into beautiful and functional items but also to inspire environmental awareness and provide a livelihood to  the families in the Province of Cabu. Many Filipino residents are subcontractors to Naturescast and gather the forest debris and the company employs others as full-time factory and production workers. making2.jpgAfter the garbage is collected the scraps are then shredded through a special machine, bonded together using a odorless water based binder and shaped into unique and functional forms designed by local artists. Each piece reflects the warm tones and textures of the natural products they are created from.

botibowl.JPGNaturesCast has developed into a worldwide company launching their product in Germany in 2004. The earth friendly products are answering the ever growing demand by environmentally conscious consumers without sacrificing style and design.
